252 degrees of Happy Camper

They assure me spring will be making it's way to western Colorado any day now...that is what they say...or so it has happened in years past. My kiddo and I tried to take the tag-along bike out for a spin (we went by the Dennis Weaver Memorial Park and to the river to throw stones) and encountered some serious wind..a few days ago we were on the slopes on a frigid but beautiful day. I wear my snow boots one day and flip flops the next.....but soon we'll be camping again!
Hence these wild photos!
For this particular model...
I have so many questions! Apparently there is a screen so that when your camper is fully fanned out you won't be exposed to all the elements...just a screen? Perhaps an opaque-bullet proof shell might be a nice addition for privacy purposes. I mean really, if you pull up in this baby- the trailer court is gonna want a ride in yer fancy time machine!
That's why we usually use tents and never go to camp grounds....they feel like suburbia in the woods...I want o be alone with me and my tribe and our own obnoxious laughter and cryin' kids.

But if I did concede to a camper this one would be on my top 3 list...I still love the old air streams though...I'm often more of a mid-century modernist at heart you know!

Saw this first on yanko Design

If I'm still critiquing this little masterpiece I have to add that I might also want a little more vanity space to spread out all my devil paint and such....yes I wear make-up in the woods. Eye rolls accepted.
This really could revolutionize the way we travel.

Washington DC .... help me Nancy!

Huevos anyone? Should I drag everyone to Perry's?
Elliott Teel Photo
We are going to Washington DC for spring break!!! I'm embarrassed to say I have never been there before. We have so much snow right now in Telluride and Ridgway that it's hard to believe there might be cherry blossoms only a short plane ride away. I miss the dahlias, the hydrangeas, the tulips, and the cherry blossoms the most since moving from Seattle...love being so close to skiing/hiking/here though.

A good friend of mine who is from D.C. suggested the following itinerary. It is a fantastic spring board. Too bad we can't get tickets to do the white house egg roll on Easter! We'll be bringing my Mom who is full of fun and curiosity and our sweet 6 year old...Scott and I might go out for one fancy schmancy dinner. We'll need to see the mall lit up at night...
Here's where you come in!
Where are the modern boutiques? The great furniture places? The funky shops? I'd love to hear your "musts"! PLEASE!!!!
M.'s recommendations:
Day 1
The Mall and the Smithsonian Museums (be sure to see the Natural History Museum)Korean War Memorial/Vietnam War Memorial Tidal Basin at the Jefferson Memorial (lined by the cherry blossoms)Eat at Tenh Penh or Michel Richard's Central?

Day 2 Breakfast at Eastern Market (Saturday morning) on Capital Hill Capitol and Library of CongressNational Archives The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden

Day 3 Spy Museum (http://www.spymuseum.org/)Lunch at Full Key (Chinatown) or Jaleo (right by the Spy Museum)Newseum (http://www.newseum.org/)

Day 4 Sunday drag queen brunch at Perry's in Adam's MorganNational Zoo and Dupont Circle. Don't know whether you want to see the Holocaust Museum (http://www.ushmm.org/)? Amazing, but definitely adult content. Also to fit in: shows at Folger Theater or National Theater.Neko Case (ALT country) is playing on the 9th at the 9:30 club. She's awesome. Not COUNTRY, COUNTRY, twang, twang.

This sounds like a good restaurant. Any one been?

All the married ladies...shoulda put an earring on it...

Clearly, I am no Beyonce!
I can't even type the little accent above the "e" correctly. Wow, what a sad title. My apologies.
I really don't have any "single lady" girlfriends...am I forgetting someone? Hmm what does that say about moi?
Anywho... when I saw what cute little gems SITE had I wished it was Christmas and I could bestow all my girls with these, oh so, appropriate jewels...you know who you are!

(OHIO)

This fork ring is a little obscure but think good food and forks in the road.

These are called Poet earrings...I just like their edginess.
UPDATE: These came yesterday! They are so tiny and absurd. FAUX moss people- just you wait they will be all the rage...

$2 .51 I'm looking for decorative oil rubbed bronze pulls for a client. We all know that full price is a crime. This so proves it.

Room for company

I'm a smokey glass addict. These would be great in a guest room with the duvet below. From Bliss Living.

These stacking shelves are great for guest rooms too. Buy a few, get storage for yourself and leave a few empty for guests...simply take yours away if too personal....

Mad about March

Every year our Ouray Friends have a March Maddness college basketball party. Maureen goes to the trouble of creating a kids room upstairs, complete with treats and activities. So sweet. I dutifully fill out a bracket every year and every year I do extremely poorly...next year I'm going to ignore my impulses and do the exact opposite. Remember how well that worked for George on an episode of Seinfeld?
I just liked this shot of the beer getters.
Gorgeous mountains ahead, a little somethin' we call the ampitheatre.

More base desire: Calvinist dining, or luxe dining?

Well look who's coming to dinner...these are whimsical yet, the trees hint to an austere modern with their stark branches. Love that Spacify.

Moving into the dining room...
This would be a buffet (very first pic) that would look great your with your mid-century modern pieces, classic, contemporary or even mixed with your traditional furniture.
I'm a little obsessed with dining tables at the moment. This would work with my furniture, the banquette base requirement, and the dark woods I so enjoy. Below is my favorite but unfortunately the legs are not going to cut it for banquette seating purposes. It would look amazing sitting in the middle of a room for a library table!! The Corsino

The Calvinist boyfriend I once brought home...Somber, probably painfully punishing for long stretches of time..... I don't know why I am draw to such this guy called Luigi. Handsome though, sigh....
I suppose if I really wanted to make a commitment I'd prefer these, below.

Mmmm velvet...so cushy....the hedonist lover of chairs.
These would look great with the Corsino. Keepers!

Curvy Moms can be bachelors too!

My Deco
is a fantastic British design site that offers great sales, tips and "style finders." Apparently, I'm quite masculine in my decorating....hmmm. Perhaps that is why I am drawn to the room above. I look at it and it calms me. I can imagine rotating beautiful vases of flowers, bowl of fruit, changing the pillows to reflect my mood or the time of year. It is a space that with little effort can tranform itself with a few interchangable accessories. It quiets my very LOUD mind.

This, on the other hand, feels like a showroom. The colors appeal to me but I think I'd get clausterphobic quickly. It's a room that would be fun for about an hour. Can a room be "too harmonious"? Everything matches...yikes.

Following are the specifics of my profile. I agree with most of it.
I AM :
ACTION STATIONS
For a family home, your style is surprisingly
masculine. Perhaps it's to do with the gadgets you own, (I DO NOT OWN A WII AND PROBABLY NEVER WILL! Do they mean appliances? My kitchen rocks on that front but our stereo system is a joke.) though more likely about
the choices you make when it comes to colour and functionality of design.
Chances are, perhaps, that your busy lifestyle adds an element of unavoidable
chaos to an otherwise orderly and disciplined aesthetic.
Living Room
Playboy, gent, aesthete (HARDLY! WE HAVE A FAMILY OF THREE AND LOTS OF GUESTS IN AND OUT!)- your living room is a shrine to bachelorism. (A SHRINE? I'M NOT EVEN RELIGIOUS! )The masculine look finds its apogee in the bachelor pad, and at the heart of every
bachelor pad is the living space, with its sharp lines and a hedonistic approach
to life that's all about having fun and very little to do with mundane chores. (BUT CAN I GET AN AMEN?)
This is the lifestyle of a Gatsby or a 007, and the fact that both are fictional
characters says it all: this look is about illusion and seduction and a dash of
hustler chutzpah.( THERE IS A FIRST FOR EVERYTHING-I"VE BEEN ACCUSED OF CHUTZBAH, OF COURSE, BUT NEVER HUSTLER CHUTZPAH!) This is a look that can't take clutter: modern accessories
blend in well, but do make sure they don't blend in too well, dulling the room's
sharp lines and turning the edgy into the anodyne. (POINT TAKEN) Earthy (but not sludgy)
colours work well in both rural and urban settings, while neutral textiles and
soft furnishings never lose their style. Curled up on the sofa with a good book,
your living room's the perfect place for some "me-time". (NOW WE"RE TALKING!)
Bedroom
It's a man's world in the master bedroom. (?) Sleep is fundamentally important to our well
being. In busy towns and cities, noise can often hamper a good night's sleep.
Soft furnishings really do absorb sound, and touch is such an important sense in
the bedroom, from crisp, linen sheets to wool or even sheepskin underfoot. You
have quite a masculine - some might say hard - style in your bedroom, using
rich, chocolate browns to create a warm and cosy escape from the rest of the
world. (It's like they've been there...although the sound of elk, random dog barking can hardly account for "noise.")
Dining Room
You're a modern maverick, (LOOK OUT John McCAIN) a supremely elegant
entertainer. (OH! Well, THANK YOU VERY MUCH) At home, you have a fresh, contemporary dining style that is versatile and achievable on almost any budget. Keeping the basics simple, try
using colour or picking something a bit unusual to add character and to give the
dining area some definition. Good design and quality materials can really lift a
place setting. When it comes to entertaining, you like to make an effort for
family and friends. (AWWW)
Home Office
You have a place for everything and
everything has its place. (OH HOW I DREAM!) Working from home is an increasingly popular solution
to the challenge of bringing up a young family and making ends meet. A dedicated
home office - even if it's just the corner of a room - will help keep you
focused and separate work from hectic family life. The modernist adage that form
should follow function is nowhere better demonstrated than in the home office:
keep things simple and add your own sense of style by using a splash of colour
or a single, well-chosen decorative piece.
Kids' Room -(THOUGHT I WAS A BACHELOR!)
Let a child's room
reflect his or her personality -- not yours! If you have the space for a
designated playroom, great. If not, then giving your kids the biggest bedroom
can be a smart move, certainly once they're past the toddler stage: it gives
them a designated space to play, enabling you to keep the rest of your home
more, rather than less, how it used to be. Cheap and cheerful is ideal when it
comes to most things in children's rooms: not only do kids grow fast, they also
grow out of fads and phases at an amazing rate. (WOW! I AGREE! HERS IS THE ONLY ROOM WITH BRIGHT COLORS AND A REALLY DIFFERENT LOOK!)
Conclusion
Keeping your
home clutter-free can be difficult at times, but what's life without challenges?
Creating boundaries and knowing when and when not to compromise will help you
make the most of everything life has to offer. (I AM ABOUT TO DO A MAJOR PURGE...I HATE CLUTTER BUT IT SNIFFS ME OUT AND STARTS TO BREEED! MY LAUNDRY ROOM HAS BEEN BEGGING FOR AN OVERHAUL SINSE CHRISTMAS!)

FUN QUIZ - try it!

Tuesday, March 17, 2009

Hi and Lo! Always big fun!

I gave my husband the quiz and he failed! If you saw these pieces- I don't think you'd know which was high and which was low! I'm not picking on VIVAVI! I love their philosophy and designs. I also know not everyone can afford them. It is possible to have champagne on a beer budget! INDEED!
above: HIGH! Over 13K!

Surprisingly LOW! Under 3k! If you have "children with fur" or allow food anywhere near this sofa you need not consider either one of these pristine beauties.

High! Over 2k
Can you imagine the marks this would make on sweaty thighs? This might require a clothing non-optional clause.

LOW! This is under $650!
It actually looks comfortable too.
Function over form-no. Form and function, no?

High! Over 1K
LOW! This is under $300!
GREEN TOO! Both bamboo!

Warped Dust

Dust Furniture has some really warped and wacky furniture perfect for kid's rooms, rec rooms, commercial kid spaces, or any place you might need a touch of whimsy. Reminds me of Dr. Seuss furniture.
One of his more obscure works?

He was soooooooooooo ahead of his time.

This coat rack is Wocket in my Pocket wacky! Also if you need some wallpaper to go with it check out Sara says Awesome.

These lovelies can be found in Colorado. Customs House is right here in Telluride!
You might need only one piece in a room to set the tone. I know if I walked into my CPA's office and saw him looking back at this Grandfather...I wouldn't mind a bit. Warped furniture lovers unite.
