Chasing the Chaise

Have you all seen the Unhappy Hipster? The perfectly pithy site that turns Dwell photos into cartoons? I love it.
I think certain members of our extended family see us this way...unrealistic design... is it so wrong that I won't allow a recliner in my home...I know they're comfortable but so are old sweat pants. Unsightly, lumpy, and probably swimming with dust mites and bacteria...
My philosophy is function over form...most of the time. Really, I just don't want to look like we picked up freebies from the nursing home garage sale. I know Todd Oldham did a series for Lazy Boy but they seemed small and only mildly reclining...
My darling husband has back troubles and my Mother thinks it is cruel and unusual punishment that we don't seem to have a really comfortble chair in our family room for him...she's getting to me!
I know he enjoys the following from Restoration hardware...but his birthday isn't until November. hmmmm
The wheels are turning!
This pic looks a little spare, the actual chaise is quite striking in person and lends itself to that Mountain Modern aesthetic we love so much!
This may be a modern chaise, it may even come in black but it's just ripe for poking fun of, right? The red number looks like it's going to sneak up on your guests after dinner...

Belly up to the bar... but don't forget about your back!

I'm always on the hunt for comfortable modern bar stools. I mean really, who wants to be perched up there with out any kind of spinal support? Mama always told me not to slouch!
The reason I love the wooden number above is because it seems like such a great transitional piece. Asian inspired, clean lines...it would look good in a mountain setting, contemporary, minimalist-even a commercial setting. Affordable too. I found it at my new fave, modern furniture.

I found this one there too. Form and function, how about that? It has both a foot rest and back support. The chrome makes it a little more edgy but in certain conditions this could be a real winner. I'm thinking, game rooms, modern kitchens, condos for its small-scale size.

I have this little darling. I bought 4 of them on Overstock
several years ago for a SONG! I think the back support is there, however minimal...
I loved the mahogany on top with the chrome base, still do!
Just wanted to mention Rocky Mountain Hardware. I appreciate their dedication to green design practices. We use them for door handles and pulls but I just realized they do tile and sinks as well! Good to know! Love their very substantial , earthy, and weighty stuff, perfect for some of our more rugged mountain style abodes!

"8" Great chairs Hi and Lo

HIGH!
$585 Fun find from Eurotrend USA

LOW
From Scotch and Soda around $85 Maybe you like the concept but lack the room...or you have a sunburn and need to stand...more about that later.

From PB Teen $50! Dorm chic? Family room wit? Comfy, yes!

More high concept seating from $500-$600 -Eurotrends USA (top and bottom.)

Also High
$284 for 2! I love these! So afforadable...and not just for the dining table! They make great side chairs or desk chairs.

Just Fabulous! 2 for $175!
These can be indoor or outdoor! I just wouldn't suggest tanning in them unless you want fractal thighs....which is a "look" I suppose. Use a high SPF though for heaven sake!
